Why do people need to have 'charisma' to run for the President? And what is wrong with having smaller government and increased personal autonomy? Those goals were abandoned because the two major political parties wanted more power over the goals. I for one would like to get rid of the two party system for that very reason. They want more power and rather have the citizens become slaves to the government.
It is human nature to try and attain power and it is a game without an end, therefore, why should politics be any different? Getting a politician or a political party to fight this phenomenon is like getting a lawyer to lobby against the ability of lawyers to extact outrageous sums of money from the average Joe. What exaclty is the self interest in doing so? In fact, it counterdicts their own self interest and would be akin to shooting themselves in the foot.
Find me a politician that screams such things as giving them less tax money or decentralizing their power by sharing more of their power with lower forms of government like state governments etc. and I will show you a politician that is or will be very shortly out of a job. 😞

If he says "give me less tax money" then he's either going to cut government services, which would be very unpopular or he's full of crap, which would make him unpopular as well.

Ron Pauls in favor of tax cuts so that citizens can pay for schools instead of the government doing it.
