Former Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar wants to know when Spain can expect their apology from Islam for eight centuries of occupation.

http://clarityandresolve.com/archives/2006/09/while_were_hand.php

“Why do we always have to say sorry and they never do?” Aznar told a conference in Washington on “global threats” on Friday. ...

Referring to the Moorish conquest of much of the Iberian Peninsula from the eighth to the 15th century, Aznar said: “It is interesting to note that while a lot of people in the world are asking the Pope to apologise for his speech, I have never heard a Muslim say sorry for having conquered Spain and occupying it for eight centuries.”

Referr ...[text shortened]... ever heard a Muslim say sorry for having conquered Spain and occupying it for eight centuries.”
Who should they apologise to--the Visigoths? Spain was not a unified country when it was conquered; the reconquista was largely responsible for forging a united Spain. Naturally it follows that Spain should thank Islam for giving it personality.

Aznar either has no concept of history or was scoring cheap political points. Or both. Not that his esteemed Muslim counterparts are any better.

seems most countries today are a result of being conquered. We'd all get tired of everyone apologizing to everyone else.

And after 8 centuries, it's no longer an occupation.

Besides, then Spain would have to start apologizing to a bunch of Central and South American countries for some historical nastyness inflicted by the Spaniards centuries past.

If at some point someone actually did say sorry! How many people actually ever have. PJPII did. Who else did? I like this neat little inversion of we get a lot of demands to say sorry becomes we have been saying sorry for so long now how about some sorrow in return.

This issue must be put in context:

Aznar es un hijo de puta derechista sin la más mínima idea de
cultura, maniqueo y soberbio, producto de la más oscura derecha
católica y, por ende, ignorante y proclive a la fuerza bruta, como todo
los hijos de puta ignorantes cuyo cerebro
no funciona.

Translation: Aznar is a far right, catholic conservative. As most of
them, he is ignorant and lacks historic depth. He is a fundamentalist
catholic, the kind we all should be afraid of -more than others. He is the type who resorts to violence since the brain works quite poorly.

Please, do not take that SOB seriously.

Seems he is in line with the creeps who advocate apologies to the negroes of America for the deeds of men who have been dead for over 100 years.

So, if we hold onto Iraq for 795 more years, it will be ours, right?

He is in the line of people who give a bad name to valid,
legitimate conservative positions. IMHO.

well, the US has held onto its land for less than that. Do you think it's yours yet or are you guys ready to give it back to the native indians?

If not, will you apologize to them? I'd suggest Sitting Bull's relatives. They live in Iowa.

arrogant, there is an English word for 'maniqueo' but I just cannot
find it (just got out from sauna so my brain is quite melted)... it
means a simple mind that sees the world in black and white, good
and bad
