In the UK we have a basic form, with supplementary pages for the different types of income, such as PAYE (Pay As You Earn - a standard employee or Director), self employed, partner of a business partnership, rental income, capital gains etc.
They have changed the forms for this tax year just finished and they have shrunk the size of the basic form. So it ...[text shortened]... online, but their software cannot yet correctly receive all the forms! As is normal over here!

Humerously, H M Revenue & Customs (IRS) is pushing people to file their Returns online, but their software cannot yet correctly receive all the forms! As is normal over here!

Just out of curiosity, why is it that all tax hikes appear to be permanent but any tax cuts are temporary and need Congressional approval to be reinstated? For example, the tax cuts that Bush instated must be reapproved in 2010 or they will go away.....and what are the chances of that other than slim to none.
Also, has anyone heard of Mccains suggestion to do away with governmnet taxes on the price of gas? It is estimated that the government takes something like 50 cents up to a dollar per gallon of gas!! They take far more profits per gallon of gas than the oil companies recieve. I think the proposal is brilliant. Of course this too would be temporary. He said "Only for the summer months", and then it would revert back to business as usual.

More interesting, what perentage of your gross income does NOT end up in your bank account?
For me:
US 19%
Austria 41%
(And sales tax in the US was lower, too -- 6% vs. 10-20%.)
Originally posted by der schwarze Ritterare you complaining about 40 cents a gallon? here in norway, a major oil producing country, we pay about a dollar in taxes pr. liter. (one gallon being 3.7854 liters)

Originally posted by mbakuninI'm not complaining. I'm merely pointing out that a lot of income is sapped every time we fill up our cars and there's no offsetting tax deduction.

Originally posted by uzlessLeave it to the hysterics to make some inane comment about building the roads, hiring an army, etc. These are core functions the government is supposed to attend to. Nobody begrudges the Treasury for taxes to pay for these obligations. The problem lies in the fact that we have politicians who sell whatever entitlement, subsidy or tax break they can to the highest bidder.

Leaving it to the last minute?????
Do you understand time?
If you are going to post inane and sarcy comments then at least review the facts!
Originally posted by surtismFair enough. But I know loads of people that submitted online with no problems. The only reported widespread problems were at the last minute.

Originally posted by mtthwAt the end of January there are normally problems with the online filing system, due to a considerable number of people filing at that time. The problems were caused by the inherent practise of H M Revenue & Customs. They have made a major alteration to their rules this tax year, which may alleviate the problem to some extent.

any "Center for ..." that has Robert C. Byrd's name in front of it.
probably around half (or more) of the coursework offered in US universities. for one thing, primary and secondary education, which has already been paid for by the taxpayer, should be graduating kids fluent in english, calculus, and a foreign language; no need for Algebra I, English I, etc. in university. and scratch public funding for all English Lit,. Philosophy, History, and dozens of other degrees.
