In the UK you can legally go to any market, shop and buy a 6ft samurai blade no licence required but then you go and buy a TV and you need a licence at the cost of £126 per year equivalent to $220 (US) why because we a forced to subscribe to
a government channel BBC (i heard the US get it for free) so i phoned the licence agency up to say i don't receive BBC (through choice)
Reply: have you got an outside aerial?
yes, but no cable connected to it.
Reply: (along the lines of) screw you pay us!
i can't afford it
Reply: (again along the lines of) screw you pay us!
the consequences for not having the licence is £1000 fine or imprisonment.
basically i think it's about time we had a damn choice in the matter.
has anywhere else outside the UK got anything similar?

Australia hasn't yet become so cable-addicted that it isn't possible to survive with our 3 commercial networks, plus the 2 government-funded ones. And in country areas not everyone even gets that many.
Back to the original topic: I've never, ever understood the whole TV licence thing in the UK. Maybe they see it as a way to fund the BBC or something.

Truth is, in America all the programs get ruined by commercials anyway. If I was living in Europe and into watching T.V. (which I'm not) it would probably be worth the extra dough just to be able to see programs that are commercial free, and not edited at that.

Somebody's getting funded aye. ๐

TV is a waste of time. Unless they are showing re-runs of The Family Guy, Futurama or Schapelles Show, It aint worth watching.
TV is the reason everyone is getting dumber and fatter. Now with TV subscription prices going up and petrol going up maybe we will have some fitter smarter people around.
