Mark Felton makes very interesting documentaries for youtube. He’s a historian, mainly WW2.
Here’s his latest. It’s about the Azov battalion, who are defending Mariupol (the factory; actually very remniscant, if you ask me, of the fight between Russians and Germans in Stalingrad; even the factory scene from Cross of Iron; one of my favourite WW2 movies).
They use some very interesting symbols. And are pretty much the unit Putin talks about when defending his reasons for going to war.
David Fishman, professor of Jewish History at The Jewish Theological Seminary said Ukraine’s neo-Nazis aren’t so bad.

Nazi loving Jews. Who would have thought?
@shavixmir saidInteresting - up to a point, but (at the risk of stating the obvious) symbols don't win battles or wars, soldiers and weapons do. Ukraine is in a war for its survival, and I'm guessing the Ukrainian soldiers are less concerned with the symbols on their tanks and uniforms and far more concerned with beating back a Russian army who seems hellbent on killing them.

@mchill saidThe Ukraine Azov battalion committed genocide killing 40,000 Russians in Ukraine, sometimes beheading their victims like ISIS.

Russians are fighting for their survival.

@mchill saidThis has nothing to do with winning battles or wars.

@shavixmir saidInteresting, the points that stuck out for me where the original Azov battalion mutinying against the German occupation in France and joining the French resistance.

The fact that original heraldic meaning behind the symbol was one of resistance to power.
It’s open to interpretation but the fact that they use these symbols and their origins in a football ultra fan group still points to a neo nazi leaning but probably more for effect than any deep commitment to Nazi doctrines.
The most significant fact is that there are only nine hundred members out of a population of 44 million, there are probably more Neo Nazis in the British army, I hope that fanatical Antifa liberal Putin doesn’t find out.
Cross of Iron though 👍

Well, he also claims "Ukraine is a flawed democracy, but unquestionably a democracy". They ban political parties from running in Ukraine so I guess Iran is unquestionably a democracy since they do the same thing.

Fishman said they are a very marginal group with no political influence and who don’t attack Jews or Jewish institutions in Ukraine, but we already know he is a liar. Ukraine bans political parties and shuts down opposition news outlets.
