Being Bullet Proof

One of the real joys in growing older is the realization that the world is truly too large for a single person to matter much. It comes as a real shock when that finally hits home.

It is at first depressing, then liberating. One can become bullet-proof. With the understanding that being right doesn't amount to much. There are so many ways of looking at the world that any one way of doing so is pretty much of no matter.

Sometimes being totally wrong is good. Do you know why?

Because it is by our mistakes that we learn. We are only re-inforced in our stupidity when we are "right". Whatever that is.

"Right". That has got to be the stupidest notion ever invented. Culture and societal differences preclude the very notion.

So tell me why I'm wrong. And make my day.

I can't imagine when wrong would be good. Do you know of such a circumstance ?

Yes.

When a islamofacists kid reports the bombs in his living room to people who will kill his dad.

But that was too obvious.

Another example is when a drug dealer earns money by killing addicts and prostitutes by selling drugs -- thus earning the money for the surgery that saves the life of his little brother.

The world abounds in wrongs that are right.

Another famous old saying I just made up.

And another currently active theme...

It is wrong to fight a war in which thousands of innocent people are killed. See Iraq.

But it is 'right' because that many were being killed anyway. The way it was.

Nobody likes war. But it is a good thing if it results in freedom for the masses.

Though I often ask myself why. Why are the masses so important?

For the most part they are sheep. Maybe that is the answer.

If you have ever tried to drag a killer pack of dogs off of a herd of sheep, (oops... sorry. It's my cattle upbringin'😉 -- Flock Of Sheep -- then you may understand this post. Not many have. I did once. It broke my heart because one of the four dogs was the only thing in my young life that I loved.

I have a feeling you might feel differantly if you were the one whose family was being murdered by whoever, you might not feel like sheep.

Being stupid is not too good...

Here is another old saying: What is the difference between a clever person and a wise person? A clever person learns from his mistakes, A smart person learns from other people's mistakes.

How about a woman who stays with her husband because of the wedding vows but is beaten and abused ?

Actually, a better difference is that a clever person can make up things that sound impressive, even if they are not -- and a stupid person just quotes stuff he/she has heard like 'A clever person learns from his mistakes'.

This realisation must have been a great source of comfort for you!

Yes. Mostly when confronted with the choice of going on with life or trying to kill myself again. It was wrong to try in the first place. It is comforting to finally realize how stupid the attempt was. If that helps any.

Perhaps you should not drink so much (as you have often mentioned in posts) if you have suicidal tendencies.

You do know that alcohol is a depressant?

It wasn't a factor when I was 22. I am now 57, if that's a clue. That is when it happened. I find it quite liberating now that I don't have to sweat the small stuff. And no. I don't have those tendencies now. The "attempt" is just part of me, that I feel might be helpful to others in becoming adults.
