Biden - Quid Pro Que with Saudi Arabia

Debates

Biden is threatening Saudi Arabia with sanctions if they don't upkeep production until after the mid-term elections.

And the news will not even challenge Democrats on their double standards.

Not a quid pro quo, it's punishing SA for reneging on their deal.

Threatening sanctions is idiotic and Biden should rightfully get ripped in the media for that. Sanctions should be used for wrongdoing, not breaking a world leader's trust.

Biden was an idiot for dealing with the Saudis in the first place.

Why exactly is it wrong to impose sanction on the Saudis? If a US monopoly was cutting production and hurting consumers, the Democratic party would certainly demonize them and make threats. Why should a foreign entity get preferential treatment? Furthermore it is fair to say the Saudis should be on thin ice, we basically gave them a pass on 9/11 so maybe they owe the US indefinitely.

Yeah sanctions will look a bit churlish but totally reasonable to use this opportunity to distance US foreign policy from the needs of that despicable autocracy.
I’ve never understood the relationship the west has with an autocratic ultra Islamic state that is the sponsor and ideological home of so many anti western terrorist groups.
I know it’s money and oil but there’s got to be a better way to balance our budgets.

Everyone here wants to argue the merits of this case in isolation and just won't see the flagrant double standard. I guess the left has been insulated by the media from any need to live by their own standards.

Wait! I'm getting more information...

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/saudi-arabia-says-biden-admin-asked-postpone-oil-supply-cut-month-rcna52037

Some are saying that the request to postpone supply cut is motivated by the timing of the US midterms. But National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson said in a statement early Friday that it was “categorically false to connect this to U.S. elections.”

Sorry, my bad. A White House spokesman, who obviously knows better than I, informs us that this is not politically motivated. I guess that settles it then. It would be wrong of me to second guess motives based on appearances.

Again, my bad. Sorry for the confusion.

Maybe it's the Saudis playing American politics.

Punishing a country for how they use their own resources is a slippery slope. Imagine sanctioning Taiwan for withholding their semiconductor market in a world that relies on such technology.

Unless it can be shown that Saudi's actions are to deliberately hurt other countries, like Russia cutting off gas to countries who badly need it, Biden's sanctions just come across as petty. And it's still idiotic to trust a government that beheads reporters.

You probably won't succeed in getting someone to see something that you have not shown them.

Maybe, instead of simply asserting its existence, you could outline where the double standard exists as you see it?

Uhuh

I could buy that you may disagree with my conclusions, but if you say you don't even know what I'm talking about, then it doesn't seem like you're even aware of anything that the press has decided not to focus on this month.

US sanctions. Hrmphhh. I wonder how long the US will have this magic power.
Right now, SA does not need the US, it is the US that needs SA. If the US sanctions SA, they will just go to Russia or China.

Are you right wingers really stupid and/or dishonest enough to believe or pretend to believe that this or any other US administration wouldn't oppose Saudi production cuts which would raise US gas prices regardless of their timing?
