You read that right, as a light bulb blew in your head about the Keystone pipeline and the stopping of drilling in the USA. So we have all this oil, he weakly defers (weakly, imagine that...he's no Reagan, he's no Trump...) defers to the Green people.
:What is all this going to cost us? We have millions of barrels of oil under the ground, but we buy elsewhere???
@mott-the-hoople saidWeren't you complaining about gas prices? Now Biden urges something that would cut gas prices in the global markets and you complain about that, too.
got to keep those kick backs coming…
Abbott rips White House, says Texas can help with oil production if Biden admin will 'stay out of the way'
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/greg-abbott-biden-white-house-texas-oil
Even if the US didn't buy one gallon of OPEC gas, an increase in OPEC production back to pre-pandemic levels would put strong downward pressure on world gas prices.
The present OPEC cut of 5.8 million bpd (https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/us-call-opec-its-allies-increase-oil-production-cnbc-2021-08-11/) is more than Texas produces at full capacity now. https://www.rrc.texas.gov/news/052521-march-production-statistics/ (1.4 billion barrels/365 days =3.8 bpd). So despite Abbott's bluster, there is nothing Texas could do in the short term that would be as effective in increasing supply and thus cutting prices as would OPEC returning to pre-pandemic levels of production.

@no1marauder
Greatly increasing US production would lower prices and help pur economy. It would be a real won win for the US. The Biden plan is a lose lose position.

@eladar saidUS production cannot increase anywhere enough in the short run to replace the cuts in OPEC production that are contributing to present higher gas prices.

@eladar saidThe US lost 21% of its workers in the petroleum and natural gas fuels or 186,000 jobs in 2020. https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/biden-clean-energy-plan-key-restoring-industry-job-losses-says-us-official-2021-07-19/
Obama said in a speech down in Brazil that the US wanted to buy Brazilian oil.
I did not want to buy Brazilian oil, but he got to speak for me.
It is in Democrat interest to drive oil jobs out of the US.
@no1marauder saidDo libs not even want oil independence? Is it in your blood to be a dependent lot?

Biden has cow-towed to the Green people. But really, why let the other countries drill away...,. We should as well.

You really shouldn't.
You had a golden opportunity to score some debate points and you really blew it.
@no1marauder saidSort of misses the point by a few miles, The dems want to "stop" using oil as it is so bad for global warming but now they want to make it cheaper so we can all afford to use more, damn hypocrites.

You complain about gas prices and then criticize Biden for promoting a solution that would result in cheaper gas? Make up your mind, please.

Needless to say, in the long term, it is necessary to reduce the amount of fossil fuels used. In the short term, however, higher gas prices are a drag on the economic recovery from the pandemic recession.

@no1marauder saidYes, it can increase. We did it before and there is no reason we cannot do it again.
US production cannot increase anywhere enough in the short run to replace the cuts in OPEC production that are contributing to present higher gas prices.
Inflation is why gas prices are higher.
OPEC knows how much the US dollar is worth. They will not takes less US dollars if those US dollars are worth less by choice.
