@jj-adams saidThe basics remain the same as I previously stated. This deposition is generally behind closed doors, not always.
Hunter Biden is trying to dictate his own subpoena rules.
You give a deposition in private in order to see if a trial is warranted.
You testify at a trial.
Durhh
However, if an individual wants to give a deposition publically, that should be granted.
There are various reasons for doing so. For example, if you are afraid that your words will be changed. Or that you will be coerced. etc.
What are the reasons for wanting this behind closed doors, against the defendant's wishes? 0. Zilch. Nought.
So... balony,

@shavixmir saidAbsolutely wrong.

Depositions are kept private in order to protect the rights of the accused should a trial be the result of them.
Derhhhh.
Hunter's lawyers know this, the whole idea that he would only do so publicly was a publicity scam.
@jj-adams saidYou still don’t get it.
Absolutely wrong.

If he wants to do it publically, that is up to him.
Not even all depositions are kept private. I read that on the site you linked to.
@jj-adams saidExcept this is NOT a criminal trial. This is an impeachment.
Absolutely wrong.

Even if it was a criminal trial depositions can and do become public.
@shavixmir saidNo, it's NOT up to him.

@jj-adams saidYes. Yes it is.

I don't care about your stupid American laws and your corrupt justice system.
If a defendant wants any sort of hearing done public, he has the right to do so.
As I've stated, there are multiple reasons imaginable why someone would wave their right to privacy on this issue.

@shavixmir saidHunter isn't the defendant here, his father potentially is.
Yes. Yes it is.

And there isn't even a defendant yet, they are trying to see if there's a case.
That's why they are kept private.
@jj-adams saidNo, it isn't. Removal by impeachment does not result in prison.
Impeachment for "high crimes and misdemeanors" most certainly is a criminal trial.
Trump is currently facing criminal charges for Jan 6th even though he was acquitted by the Republican-controlled Senate. Impeachment is not a criminal proceeding.

@shavixmir saidHa. Coming from the same person who says everyone has a 'Right' to free housing!! You sure throw that 'right word around. Prob because you and your countrymen help yourselves to stuff you think you have a right to?

Then it's perfectly acceptable to say: "Hey... yeah... in public. Let everyone see what's going on."
Nothing strange about that at all.
