Trump wasn't charged with "possessing documents". He's charged with knowingly taking classified documents with him that weren't declassified, conspiring to lie to the FBI, etc.
Unlike Trump, Biden cooperated with returning documents; Trump outright refused. Had Trump simply cooperated with the FBI like Biden did he wouldn't have been charged.

The lawyers did not in the least go along with the orders to give the docs back, did you forget it took near a YEAR to get them back and even then after a raid on Trump's palace finding top secret docs right on Trump's bedside table. Actually Trump or any other POTUS does NOT have the right to willy nilly declassify TS docs, there is an actual procedure and it for sure does not involve declassifying them telepathically like Trump claims. Also now that Trump has stolen millions of pages of TS and above docs, for you, the entire idea of national security is a joke.
