People, in general, are a pain in the arse.
And very touchy about subjects that are, essentially, there to have the piss ripped out of them.

I have no problem with jokes or humor which is racist, sexist or whatever. Even now. Hell, one of the best jokes ever is about pedophilia (and bestiality). Whatever. It’s a joke.
And if a film is a serious movie about, say, policing in LA, then nobody in their right mind is gonna say “N-word”. They will literally use the N-word (which is banned on this site). Context is everything!

However, just looking at the opinions on this forum, or listening to trump talk about immigrants eating pets and being contagiously diseased, it’s quite understandable why people get worked up about it.

People who start believing in sexist and racists tropes are worrying.
If you tell a joke, you could be cementing someone’s retarded opinions.
And that is not the goal of humor.

So, to a degree Bill is right. On the other hand, he’s not nuanced enough to see the larger picture of what’s actually happening.

Basically, he’s compartementalising one part of something that is worrying and not putting it into context.
And it’s humor. Which makes it acceptable.

But, does he know that some of you are running with it, outside of context, and using it as an overal blanket?
Then, suddenly, he seems rather back-dated and out of touch himself.

An example:

It’s basically alright to joke:
“Why does a moslim not eat pork?”
“Because the koran forbids cannabilism.”

But when that joke leads to people actually having anti-moslim feelings, or that the joke gets used by extremists and racists pushing an agenda, then it becomes propaganda.

And that’s when you can’t use it anymore.

Now, say the joke was told years ago. And it was part of a wider anti-moslim sentiment which festered and that this resentment had real world implications? Is it unjustified to single it out and oppose its spread in hind sight? With basically the idea being: let’s use it as an example of what not to do; lessons learned?

Tropes about greedy Jews controlling the world, left unopposed, helped the propaganda which led to a very nasty stain on history. Is it not correct to look at The Protocols of the Elders of Zion and say: hey, that’s BS and disturbing? I mean, that’s presentism as well.

And say that it is correct, is it not then correct to look at our own histories and tropes, and pinpoint attitudes which are not constructive? Even from our current points of views?
I mean, how else does one learn?

Nuance. The killer of right-wingism.

Sorry.

I love humanity; it’s just people who are annoying.

If the best jokes for you is about pedophalia or beastiality then you are a sicko, and we all know that. Anyway, its the personality traits that come first, then come the humour based on those traits. Its not the other way around. Jokes dont appear in a vacuum.

Eg .. Islam is a messed up religion, then people make jokes about Islam.
Nobody is influenced to dislike Islam because of the jokes.
Jokes dont create stereotyping, neither discrimination.

All jokes are based on reality, otherwise it wont be funny. Islam allows husbands to beat or rape their wives, deny their women the right to vote or drive or further their education. Jokes based on those facts are not the cause of people viewing Islam negatively.

Bad traits first. .. Bad experiences come after
Jokes and humour based on these experiences last.

The bible says you're allowed to have slaves.

By the way, 1 in 5 women in Western Christian society is physically or mentally abused by their husbands. Just so you know.

You show me, in the Koran, which Sura even suggests this.

You can't, because it's not there.

Oh, and by the way, 1 in 5 women in Western Christian society is physically or mentally abused by their husbands. Just so you know.
Lol .. Start another thread instead of messing up this one with Islam and their stupidity. There are loads of educated muslim women trying to get these Quranic verses retranslated because the men want the control over women. So it is in the Quran and in the Haddiths. Anyway here it is and stop arguing nonsense.

Surah 4:34
Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allah has given one over the other and what they spend [for maintenance] from their wealth. So righteous women are devoutly obedient, guarding in [the husband's] absence what Allah would have them guard. But those [wives] from whom you fear arrogance - [first] advise them; [then if they persist], forsake them in bed; and [finally], strike them. But if they obey you [once more], seek no means against them. Indeed, Allah is ever Exalted and Grand.

A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. But women will be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint.

You know you concede the point when you resort to 'whataboutism'. Nothing about beating or striking the wife at all in the Bible. In fact if you want to practice whataboutism, continue reading a few verses down:

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. (Eph 5:25-28 KJV)

Yes, slaves were unpaid workers and were a part of the normal life of people in those times. The unpaid workers were given food, clothes and housing. Basically their needs were taken care of. The bible told slave masters to look after their slaves and treat them well. It was not the kind of slavery practiced in the US.

Ah, basically the same as the position of women in that area in those times?

Wrong. A wife or woman is not a slave. Maybe in Islam that is the case. This is why people dislike Islam. The point is that it has nothing to do with the jokes. The jokes are based on facts.
