The "romantic" sympathies of the world road with the gangsters. Almost 50/50. Some were glad they died. Some were sad that they were killed.

Why? What in human nature allows this? Same as allows for debating "Bush vs. Saddam"?

Yes. Romantic childish notions vs. the reality of a harsh world and the difficulty of being an adult.

I think people liked them because, it was during the depression and, many people had lost their farms and homes to the bank. They were kind of looked up to, like Robin Hood until later in their careers they started killing people.

People still look up to mobsters. Gotti used to sign autographs and dine with celebrities, until he went to prison.
