I think that right now Obama is playing more of the bad guy, because he just thinks spending and giving out entitlement health care benefits happens to be both the cure for all that ails america and something that makes a lot of people feel good, happy, and proud of themselves... just before an election year.

Pretty much regardless of what Obama does, the economy will probably pick up again, and in three years time, Obama will probably claim his policies have done the job. However, the recovery might not be apparent in one year's time, and the Dems will probably lose quite a few seats in Congress.
