I believe kirksey had already started a thread on this subject, though it might have got a bit sidetracked. To answer your question, my money is still on Bush 😲

What's the spread?

Is the spread done in electoral votes or percentage of the popular vote? Oh, wait, I forgot, the popular vote doesn't matter. Perhaps the spread should be calculated in Supreme Court Justices. 😕

As i write the odds on betfair are Republicans 1.56 (i.e. 4/7), Democrats 2.72 (i.e. 7/4). So the internet gambling community say Bush.

Interestingly, my Fiancee has been doing some pro-bono work for the Kerry campaign. If what they have her working on is any indication, the Kerry team is VERY well prepared for potential screw ups. Hopefully things will go better this time!

I am more interested in what will change if Kerry wins. And if there no clear policy differences, who cares?

I think the Republicans and the Democrats thought Bush would win.
I'm pretty much certain that the Democrats used Kerry for this exact purpose. He loses, Bush wins and in four years time they push Hillary Clinton forward as the first female running for presidency, highly experienced and generally accepted in the world as large (not too sure on the home front, but I suppose most people in the US will agree that she's at the least smarter than either her husband or Bush).

I don't really think the democrats expected the polls to be nearly equal. Or that people like REM and Springsteen would go around doing a pro-Kerry tour.

In the end, it will probably resound around the three man-man debates the two are going to have. I'm suprised the other candidates aren't allowed to participate though...pretty strange from where I'm sittin'.
If Kerry does really well, I think he'll win the election (and basically put the democrats up poop-creak). If he doesn't do well, then it's gonna be a cliff hanger. With Bush probably scraping through by the skin of his (or his cousin's) teeth.

EDIT:

I am writing in Tony Blair. Don't know if it will work though.

Seriously,

My generation can never forgive Hanoi John.

I don't really like Bush, but he is getting my vote.
