I'm sure that Bush understands the capability of nuclear weapons such as those used on Hiroshima, killing 70000, and Nagasaki, killing another 70000 only a few days later.

He also seems to understand the capability of other WMD's, having lied to the world about them being in Iraq.

What we need to teach politicians is that the public will hold them acco ...[text shortened]... corrupted by personal financial interests, etc.

First, we need to overcome our own apathy.
I would hardly call war apathetic. How can an apathetic population wage war? Bact to the scientists, engineers and technicians: do you not hold them responsible for modern weapons?

Spoken like a true Luddite Del. Did it ever occur to you that in a democracy, all are responsible for the advancement of civilization? Only in despotic dictatorships can we blame "science" or "lack of science" for evil.

I'm not "blaming" anyone, SVW. And when did I say weapons were evil? Nothing evil about my .45 auto, it's a work of art. What's more I'm trying to get Stang to agree that all are responsible, not just the political heads of state.

Sorry. I could have sworn that you said "Since we can be reasonably certain that all political leaders will continually try to accumulate power, perhaps it is the scientists, engineers and technicians whom we should be holding accountable."

That just sounded a whole lot like the notion that "scientists, engineers and technicians" ARE responsible for human progress and moral definitions of society.

Silly me. I read stuff that seems obvious and I should just mush on through it like everybody else. I guess.
