STANG, your continued futile quest to oust President Bush is not looking good. I believe his address last night to have been specifically crafted to respond to your attempts to unseat him. I believe your next on his sh@t list.
"Our strategy to defend ourselves and spread freedom is working.
The rise of freedom in this vital region will eliminate the conditions that feed radicalism and ideologies of murder and make our nation safer.
We have more work to do, and there will be tough moments that test America's resolve.
We are fighting against men with blind hatred and armed with lethal weapons who are capable of any atrocity. They wear no uniform; they respect no laws of warfare or morality. They take innocent lives to create chaos for the cameras.
They are trying to shake our will in Iraq, just as they tried to shake our will on September 11, 2001. They will fail.
The terrorists do not understand America. The American people do not falter under threat, and we will not allow our future to be determined by car bombers and assassins.
America and our friends are in a conflict that demands much of us.
It demands the courage of our fighting men and women. It demands the steadfastness of our allies. And it demands the perseverance of our citizens.
We accept these burdens because we know what is at stake.
We fight today because Iraq now carries the hope of freedom in a vital region of the world, and the rise of democracy will be the ultimate triumph over radicalism and terror.
And we fight today because terrorists want to attack our country and kill our citizens, and Iraq is where they are making their stand.
So we'll fight them there, we'll fight them across the world, and we will stay in the fight until the fight is won."
Which of the 100,000 dead is Bush referring to as terrorists who would want to attack America and kill its citizens ???
Also, strange that America would kill for freedom and democracy yet support dictators.
In the name of freedom and democracy, there could be an argument to assassinate the people who support dictators ... or similarily meddle with the affairs of other countries.
Of course, people could make their own judgements on what is noble and who to kill and levels of acceptable "collateral damage" in its defence.
That's what 9/11 was.
That's what Iraq is.
Violence leads to violence.
However, violence also escalates.
No wonder you're scared of nuclear missiles sitting on their launch pads.

As a global society, we stand at a crossroads with a short window of opportunity. One road leads to global prosperity, peace, freedom and perhaps, collectively, pursuing exploration of space and other grandeous ideas. The other path leads to continued stagnation, economic crisis, famine, war, crime, hate and the gradual decline of Western civilization. You chose.
edit: Scared of nuclear missles? Where did that come from?
Originally posted by STANGStang, in your opinion that the violence and civilian deaths of WW2 only escalated violence?

Originally posted by RochadeI really appreciate your thoughtful response. When the US had a draft (required military service) many "conscientious objectors" took on similar paths as you described.
@kirksey957
Concerning your question concerning Auschwitz.
I for myself, as a German, have chosen not to do the military service (1 year for every male grown up) but instead have chosen to do social service. Why ?
Because I have seen films and documentaries concerning this time of my people´s history and decided that in that time under this machine ...[text shortened]... reedom and democracy as they do it only in those states which are uniqly rich on raw materials.
