I'd like to learn more about the Canadian government, political system, and its political parties. I've done a little bit of research into it, but because I'm an American I'm much too lazy to do more research than that. So if any Canadians want to get on here and tell us about their way of doing things, I'd like to hear it.

I think I've picked out the NDP (New Democratic Party) as my favorite. What more can you tell me about them?

Texas exports cowards? Is cowardice a cash crop in the Lone Star State?

Apparently some people allegedly from Texas are too cowardly to use their real username (see towards the bottom of the 1st page of the "Armistice Day 1918" thread)!

If I thought for a second that you and I could meet face-to-face I would give you my address, coward. You're nothing but a pissant now do the world a favor... go away and die.

Well just create a second pretend address and give me that one if you're too afraid to give the real one!

Put your money where your mouth is and stick a maple leaf in your profile. I had mine there weeks ago. Also, you owe a man some verse.

I won't bore you with the History.

We run on a multi-party system where, in each riding, we elect one member of parliament on a federal level and one member of provincial parliament on a provincial level. There are many parties that have their names on the ballot, the major four parties being the Liberals, Progressive Conservatives, the NDP and the Bloq Quebecois (only Federal). Each is centre or slightly left/right thereof with the exception of the BQ which runs on a separatist platform. Each riding sends one member to the house where the bickering ensues. The party holding the most seats in the house is the ruling party and the leader of that party is the prime minister, who has his/her own riding and must win their seat to become prime minister.

The senate is full of fat cat beaurocrats who have been born into their position and they do little but waste taxpayers money on lavish lifestyles and vacation spots - they serve no function and will not be discussed any further.

The Government of Canada is based on a system of responsible government. If the party holds a majority of the seats in the House than they can pretty much have their run of things for five years. If the ruling party does not have a majority of the seats then a minority government is declared and the ruling party has to kiss ass some more.

The Government can collapse if there is a vote of non-confidence within the House. An election must immediately be called if this is the case. The shortest time a PM has been in power is 9 months.

I do not support any specific political party here at home, but I sure as hell never vote for the PC party. The NDP tend to lean a little more to the left than the others.

I can't say I pay much attention to the details of the process further than that. What I can say is that our troubles lie not in foreign policy but with fiscal responsibility. The Liberal government, which has been in power now for almost 16 years has had many misallocated funds and sponsorship scandals. They are crooks like every politician.

There you go...

If you have further questions, ask somebody who knows more 🙂

He'll get his verse when I'm damn good and ready to give it to him. If he's impatient, then he should drop by RHP and let me know. 😛
