Can this be true?

This is for BlindFaith101 and his friends:

Somewhere in Italy (Can't remember where) there is a statue near a church. That statue has an opening: A mouth and it is said that god put it there. It is also said that if a person puts his hand in the mouth and tells a lie - he will not be able to pull it out.
Now suppose no one has ever tryed it and there is no evidence that it doesn't work. Would you believe it is true?
(There is a point to this, but answer first please).

Just to clarify, it is called "La bocca veritas" I believe, the mouth of truth 🙂

and another point you can not make an image of god a total no no. as this is just a legend that we humans tend to give some things.
