I'm ahppily married man from a small town, so I'd better be careful what I say here but I'm gonna enjoy reading yours!!!!
My family ones are:
"I love you, you're a pretty good Step Dad." (That choked when said me out the blue after a three years of my second marriage.)
"I love it when you're near me."
But best of all: guaranteeed to get in my will!!
"Gosh! Dan what have you been doing, you look great and you've lost soooooo much weight."

I picked up my date to the Junior Prom in 1965 and the girls mom said to her... "You look wonderful dear. Even if that dress makes you seem pleasingly plump."
Honest to god. With a mom like that, who needs honesty?
You look tired, you been getting enough sleep?
You look thin, have you been getting enough to eat?
Are you still dating ----? How is she? How is work? How's your car running??
Are those new clothes? Is that the style now? What are the kids listening to these days? How are you doing in class? What are they teaching you? What teachers do you like??
I understand you kids had a little party, I was asking ---- about it. Who went? What were you kids doing? Why did the cops come?? Was something stolen? Who would have done that? Was anything broken?
Anyway, the lady must have known everything going on! She really scared me, since I was a pretty shy kind of guy. I always felt under the light with her. One time I went to this friends house since her mom was not going to be home.. well, she was! She started asking me some questions and I was feeling less than talkative.
I actually started to get paranoid, and called my girlfriend to get me out of there. I was whispering on the phone....
'Hey, come pick me up'.
But I just dropped you off?
'Please, I have to get out of here'.
I'm on my way into a store right now.
'I GOT STUNG BY A BEE, I CAN'T BREATH'!
Oh, I'm coming now!
So, anyway... everyone is all freaked out now, so I start to feel better. This mother now wants to help me, but I tell her I need some fresh air, and the girl will pick me up very, very soon. I go outside and she screetches up. I get in.
"Are you ok"?
Yes, ----'s mom came home and freaked me out.
"Well, why didn't you just say that? I would have picked you up"!
I couldn't say it, she was right there!
Yes, it was that bad. This lady was ready to say, or ask anything at any time.
