Recently President Chavez has (re)stated that the Netherlands Antilles, the three islands Curaçao, Aruba and Bonaire, just off the Venezuelan coast, are part of his country, Venezuela.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netherlands_Antilles

Such claims are the recipe for uniting a divided country against a common enemy. The Argentine junta has tried this recipe with the Falklands and now Chavez is repeating this policy regarding the Dutch Antilles.

Chavez is a meathead. Even worse, he's an economic illiterate.

But unlike the UK/Falklands issue, do the Dutch have the military capability or resources to do anything about it?

Come on ..... the Dutch dont need to have anything. The US would love to have an excuse to get in there and stick a grenade up Chavez's butt.

Interesting news. Trinidad where I live is probably closer. I wonder if he will try anything so stupid with us.

There is no doubt in my mind that if Chavez tried anything, the Dutch would make sure it was Dutch soldiers doing the butt kicking. Likely with the help of U.S. logistics, and possibly a few U.S. SOCOM personnel.

Wasn't this like, over a year ago, with Chavez worried about the upcoming Joint Caribbean Lion? I mean wouldn't you be if someone stuck loads of amphibious troops 40km from your border?
There may be no reason to be paranoid, but it's very understandable.

Wouldn't it be better to have posted a link to a source for this?
