yep... the time to compete is a prob. but yeah, competitors could compete like they do to qualify for the world cup soccer over a long period. it may only leave a few to actually compete in the olympic games... but they would be the very best. i'd sure love to watch that!
You can't limit the number of competitors in the Olympics, anyone who meets the standard over the course of a time period (run under a certain time, jump a certain distance etc.) is allowed to compete if their country will allow them.

And you really think that Chess would get any coverage if people could watch any other sport instead?

i wish some others who also think chess should be part of the olympics would also throw a few thoughts and ideas up in the air to discuss here.
But it wouldn't be the main event of the Olympics. In fact there isn't a main event of the Olympics, that's part of the point.

Chess at the Olympics would be played in a back room with maybe 20 people watching.

And could you really want to do away with the Olympiad in favour of a competition for the top 10 players?

3) life's a gamble isn't it, so yeah if chess became a success in the olympics it would gain at least 10 times the interest giving more prestige to all chess underneath.
Justify this. Why would Chess improve in standing if it became an Olympic Sport?

actually, could you see a bunch of musscleheaded athletes trying to play chess? and could you see a scrawny guy with a comb-over and thick glasses with tape in the middle and pens in his pocket protectors wearing dress pants flooding to his shins trying to jump a hurdle? ok the stereotype of chess players all being nerds and athletes all being dumb jocks is not always true, but im trying to get the poitn across lol

I watch the Olympics. However, I don't watch the sports that are not fun to watch. Why would Joe Meathead watch Chess especially if he could watch Javelin or Basketball instead?

chess is a little outdated, if you want to add something that is popular and also lame for the olympices, try video games.
