Climate change alarmism or global warming alarmism is a critical description of an alleged rhetorical style which stresses the potentially catastrophic effects of global warming as a technique for motivating public action. The term "alarmist" is primarily used by those who reject the scientific consensus on climate change as an epithet for those who treat the issue objectively.[1]

I guess the discourse on the other global warming thread goes a bit above your head then.

As to the term alarmist, yes it's mostly an insult thrown about by people who aren't interested in a true debate. Though that doesn't mean there aren't any people out there who, either deliberately or because they don't know any better, exaggerate the projected impact. *ahem*Gore*ahem*
