Compare “ruling” to “governing”

Debates

Appropriate post for July 4? A post June 28 brought a comment where lib said “rule”, where in fact the word “govern” would have been the logical word-choice of a conservative.

Now, what is the difference?

I like to call it "ruling" vs "serving".

Growing up, the idea was that the government was there to serve the taxpayer. Now it seems, those in political position view themselves as the ruling class. We the people are now subjects, not citizens.

Ruling is where the people fear their own govt.

Governing is where the govt fears it won’t be re-elected.

Really how naive were you as a child, you’ve never been a citizen, grow up.
Like me every 4 or 5 years you get to choose a new ruler to govern you.

I did not say I grew up in Europe where people have always been subjects.

The exact quote was:

no1: The bottom line is you and right wingers want the People to be ruled. The Left wants the People to rule.

It was mostly referring to your slavish idea that without a small elite to command us, all would be lost i.e.

AJ: I do think that we would be lost without the god like talents of a few rich people.

It was also referencing your and other right wingers constant support for anti-democratic measures and institutions.

Sonhouse where you been? After all the digging to find Trump crime, all they could find was an employee Weiselberg who may have falsified tax deductions benefits, some such as that.?????? Nothing else???? No wonder you are laying low.

At least we are smart enough to be aware of our status. Just keep sucking your thumb and standing to attention when ‘Hail to the Chief’ plays in your head every time you catch a glimpse of your Sun King.

I am telling you that the US has not always been this way. We had a society free of government oppression. But if you make false promises you can convince people to put the yolk of the manor over your neck. The beginning of the end was the enactment of the income tax. Working for the Lord of the Manor is the basis of the oppressive government structure. It makes a thrall out of a citizen. Instead of the government working for you, you work for the government.

bwahahahahahaha. your government had Japanese internment camps, Jim crow laws, the communist scare, the draft for the Vietnam wars, the Patriot Act, Guantanamo bay. When exactly did the government oppression stop and when did it start again?

Actually, when someone works and makes money, he is working not for the government, when you get right down to it. He is working to support the people who do NOT work, it is that simple. Libs, all who fancy themselves psychologists and social doctors, do not look at it that way, because they only see things in a complicated fashion. The writings of Marx? Complicated.
We work for other people to spend the money we make, we do not work for the government. Marauder will jump in here and say We ARE the government, to draw attention away from my point. Your neighbor gets food stamps? You paid for that. Too simple, I know. AvJoe is here to cut through their siht.

When decisions were made about each of the occasions you list, you must consider the thinking and input at the time. "Japs just killed 3000 men at Pearl and have declared war!!!" If I'd been at the table, I'd say "my god, round up the ones here and put them in one spot so we can watch them. Take away their cell phones". More than one person rationally thought that that should be done.
You libs are GREAT at monday morning quarterbacking, sinse you are all too dainty to be real ones! 😉

Let's put aside your racial slur. We already know you're racist.

You're saying that because a military that's 5,000 miles away from the U.S. mainland attacked a base 3,000 miles from the mainland...you'd support forcing Japanese citizens into detention camps?

So if Russia and the U.S. ever go to war, you want all Russian-Americans rounded up? Wait, stupid question; Russians are white.

Seems that all those posts about how conservatives wouldn't "rat out" extremists are BS, huh?
