There may be a thread on this,...let's vote on how SCOTUS rules on mandates in a few minutes. I vote they tell Biden to shove it. Remember Marauder was all behind using OSHA to give congress (who would not do it) the finger, do an end-around.
We find out today! AvJoe vs. Marauder! Better than Ga/Ala!!

@no1marauder saidHow many of them were triple-vaccinated? Conflating people who died before vaccines were available with the "danger" in an era of Omicron where triple-vaccinations are routine is intellectually dishonest.
Google search "Teachers who have died of COVID".
During this pandemic, it was a valid excuse for not working that you had a fear of catching this deadly disease:
" Notably, President Biden instructed the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) to issue new instructions to state unemployment agencies that will allow individuals to claim unemployment benefits even if they quit ...[text shortened]... ecting the misinformation you post on this site minimizing this disease for purely partisan reasons.
That anyone would use this mild-to-nonexistent threat to justify wholesale abandoning of the responsibilities of public school teachers is grotesque.
If a 73-year old diabetic teacher wants to quit and get unemployment benefits, fine. But a 32-year-old healthy triple-vaxxed teacher walking out because she's afraid of COVID? A disgusting and highly selfish abdication of responsibility.
@no1marauder saidAs for your predictable ad hominem, there is nothing partisan about protecting the interests of schoolchildren.

@sh76 saidIt's a strange concept of "protecting schoolchildren" that requires them and their teachers to be exposed to a deadly disease.

If you had bothered to make that Google search, you'd now know that teachers have been dying at elevated rates since schools reopened in September.
Your positions are more and more monstrous; no one should be required to work in an unsafe workplace. The Chicago Teachers main demand is utterly reasonable:
"But the union wants schools to be able switch from in-person learning to virtual learning if Covid-19 absences amount to more than 25% of school staff; 30% of elementary school students; or 25% of high school students."
https://www.cnn.com/2022/01/10/us/chicago-schools-teacher-union-mayor-monday/index.html
It's absurd that the Mayor won't agree to such a condition.
@sh76 saidYou're awfully concerned about the right of people to have jobs when it comes to vax mandates but not so much in this case...
Nobody is saying people should go to work when they're sick.
But these teachers are refusing to go to work because they might get sick if they do.
That's not an excuse that has ever worked for any employee ever.

@sh76 saidOmnicron has supposedly been the main variant for about a month yet COVID deaths are still averaging more than 1500 a day and reached 2457 last Thursday. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us

"Mild to nonexistent threat"? Not according to the WHO:
""While Omicron does appear to be less severe compared to Delta, especially in those vaccinated, it does not mean it should be categorised as mild," Dr Tedros told a press conference on Thursday.
"Just like previous variants, Omicron is hospitalising people and it is killing people.
"In fact, the tsunami of cases is so huge and quick, that it is overwhelming health systems around the world."

@no1marauder saidBut they are not REQUIRED to work anywhere. Am just 'too' logical? They can quit and get another job?

Please explain why this simply cannot be the case.
@averagejoe1 saidSorry, but employers in the US are required to maintain a safe workplace:

"Federal law entitles you to a safe workplace. Your employer must keep your workplace free of known health and safety hazards. "

You shouldn't have to quit and look for another job because your employer is breaking the law.

@no1marauder saidBig Moment. Let us wait to see what SCOTUS says about this, as they literally have to decide what is a 'safe workplace' when considering the effect of Covid.

I'm betting they do not come down on your side.
@averagejoe1 saidThey may very well invalidate the OSHA mandate, but they almost certainly won't do so by saying what a "safe workplace" is.

@no1marauder saidBut that is a phrase you brought up. Certainly you wont it leave it hanging, undefined?

@sh76 saidLOOKS LIKE A DUCK...........
This is a good place to start.

The default position of most MSNBC hosts (e.g., Maddow, Hayes, O'Donnell, Reid) is that every Republican politician and position is morally bankrupt and informed by sinister motives. They obliterated Manchin and Sinema for example, with wild claims about their evil nature and corruption and made Sinema's ...[text shortened]... th sides seem to have decided that fawning to the basest of the base is the only way to get ratings.

In general, OSHA decides what constitutes what a "safe workplace" is. That is what Congress empowered them to do.
I don't work for OSHA either.
