Conservatives really hate government. Over half of their statements concern "big government" and the taxes it imposes on them. So - to all the little Conservative snowflakes out there crying about big Government and taxes I have a little reality check for you:
Our Federal, State, and Local Governments provides for you a reasonably safe country in which you can work, play, and raise your families. It provides armed forces to protect you, a reasonably stable currency, deposit insurance for your bank accounts, food inspections, roads, bridges, ferries, a reasonably fair justice system, copyright and patent protection, environmental protection, disaster relief, and countless other Government services you take for granted. All your Government asks in return is that you obey its laws and pay one of the lowest tax rates in the developed world. If this is unacceptable to you folks you're welcome to find another country to live in, otherwise - STFU and stop complaining!
@mchill saidTell that to the rioters lol.

“It would be thought a hard government that should tax its people one tenth part.”
Now if you think that taxation is the main grievance, you would be mistaken and apparently deaf for years of me and others posting on this site.
The issue is control. The US was founded on the premise of a limited government, but it is anything but today.
Government has been expanded by the Left on the premise of the General Welfare clause allowing it. But James Madison, who is referred to as the Father of the Constitution, had this to say about his own General Provision clause
“If Congress can employ money indefinitely to the general welfare, and are the sole and supreme judges of the general welfare, they may take the care of religion into their own hands; they may appoint teachers in every State, county and parish and pay them out of their public treasury; they may take into their own hands the education of children, establishing in like manner schools throughout the Union; they may assume the provision of the poor; they may undertake the regulation of all roads other than post-roads; in short, every thing, from the highest object of state legislation down to the most minute object of police, would be thrown under the power of Congress... Were the power of Congress to be established in the latitude contended for, it would subvert the very foundations, and transmute the very nature of the limited Government established by the people of America.”
I think you will agree that with every law or regulation, liberty wanes in an effort to guard against something. As such, laws and regulations should be passed with trepidation, but today government passes about 40,000 new laws and regulations every year. Is the American people that "bad"? Are they really keeping us from dying in the streets?
Ironically enough, the Boston Tea Party was not done because of high taxes, rather, it was done to prevent the British East Indies company from having a monopoly on tea. Taxes actually went down but yet they revolted anyway because they did not like being monopolized like corporations do today. In fact, look at who gets bails outs, large corporations. Look who is labeled large corporations "essential" and small business not so much. The same things are happening all over again.
And yes, I enjoy being free to leave my house and working. Call me crazy.

@kazetnagorra saidSo Whodey quoted it properly.
Actual quote:
"It would be thought a hard Government that should tax its People one-tenth Part of their Time, to be employed in its Service."
Time is money, and the government is taxing a person's time when the government taxes a person.
Perhaps this falls short on the rich, but it is absolutely true for people who live on their wages.
I have no illusions, conservatism is dead at the Federal level and will remain so.
My biggest hope is the Article V movement for states to pass Constitutional amendments to restore Federalism, although a very long shot, is better than none at all to stop the drift towards despotism/economic collapse
@whodey saidGo ahead. Finish the quote. One tenth part of what?

This typical for you guys. You can't get the control over the masses that you have wet dreams about and so you think, oh, I know, I'll blame the Dems for it and while people are distracted, we can bring more sheep under our thumb. You're always blaming us with all the stuff you would do in a heartbeat, if only we didn't stand in your way. So stop with the lies, already. It stopped being funny a long, long time ago.
@whodey saidAnd stop with your bulls--- attempts to rewrite the Constitution in favor of your corporate overlords.
