political. Even in murder cases that leave no doubt as to
guilt, I have never thought it wise for the citizens of a
state to transfer to that state the legal power to execute
its citizens. The state, being a political entity, will inevitably misuse that power for political gain. I am not against capital punishment for capital crimes, but I am against having it carried out by any political entity. And yes, I could pull the trigger, but only if I was the person most grievously wronged by the death of the victim. -Del

If I knew by kicking it away I was detering another murderer from pulling out his knife, then yes, I believe I could.

Guy Paul Morin and Clifford Olsen. Both convicted of heinous crimes and both could have been executed if Canada had the death penalty.
Morin was exonerated by DNA evidence after spending 10 years in jail. If Canada had the death penalty, his exoneration might have come too late for him. Mistakes happen, or in Morin's case, the Crown was overzealous. There have been other wrongful convictions and I'm sure some cases would have received a lesser sentence if the party had the very best defense team.
If you think it can't happen to you, read about Morin, he was prosecuted just because the cops didn't like him. There again, this has happened again; a nurse was charged with murder at a hospital largely because she insisted on talking to a lawyer before a supposed informal interview with the police. She was innocent.
