Even if a Chinese vaccine is proven safe and effective, it
likely would be politically easier for the USA to refuse it and
wait for a vaccine developed in the West or Russia.

Yes indeed. If there is a stupid way of doing things, you can bet the Trump administration will go with it.

I have been waiting for Puppet, Trump, to take orders from his Master, Putin, to sign up for the Sputnik V vaccine.

But Alas, did Trump rebuke those marching orders??? Putin will never help him now!
The honeymoon is over :-( and now the US people will suffer

Can trump really sign off on a vaccine unilaterally? perhaps recent events have led him to doubt the extent of his grip on the CDC or whatever federal agency ultimately clears a vaccine for use by US citizens.

All the major vaccines were developed at roughly the same time (March or so). It's just a matter of how much testing you want to do before you deem it safe.

Exactly.

And people seem to think the vaccine will solve everything within a month.

They’re in for a bloody great shock.
Any resemblance to normality won’t be felt until months after 60% of the population have been vaccinated. Maybe 70%.

At best, very best, you’re looking at August 2021 before the virus can be under control.
By vaccination.

If the whole world stayed home for 2 months, the virus would be under control by Christmas.

And then another “wave” of infections by the following spring.

Whichever way one looks at it, the virus has to work it’s way through the population at some point.

should be easy to create a vaccine for something they created.

I saw a photo of a kids cartoon style rubber Coronavirus toy hanging in a store on a backing card; on the bottom of the card was printed “made in China”.

This is good news indeed and very pleasing to see the Chinese clearing up the mess they’ve made.
