People I know think they got covid twice in one year. Since they were never tested it is hard to know if they didn't have the flu or a bad cold before they got covid, but I have heard this claim enough to bring it up here.
You would think after all this time they would have a better idea about this, but it isn't easy to get reliable info about how long natural immunity lasts. It is also unclear if the different variants can infect you in much the same way flu variants infect people as they mutate and infect people again every year.
Can any of you shed some light on this recently neglected topic? How long does immunity last? Do certain new variants overcome that immunity? How does natural immunity compare to vaccine immunity with the new omicron variant?
Do the GENE VACCINES REALLY PROTECT AGAINST THE OMICRON VARIANT? Some people claim they do, but do they really? If they are so effective why are they making a new vaccine for the omicron variant?
@metal-brain saidIt’s a well documented subject.

Until omicron re-infection was very, very uncommon. 2 or 3 reported cases or so which had been proven (data can be found on the RIVM, NHS, WHO and CDC sites).
Omicron has over 30 mutations. Many of these make it harder for antibodies to detect it in the body. So, the chances of reinfection go waaaaaay up.
So, until it’s specifically targetted, the best option is to increase the chances of antibodies detecting it… so, make waaaaaay more antibodies. So, get a booster shot.
Not rocket science.

@metal-brain saidYes of course you can catch a virus that constantly mutates more than once and I know of several people who have the results to prove it.

People who have had Delta have now caught the more transmissible Omicron. Why are you even asking questions about a self evident and true by definition state of reality?
I get the flu vaccine every year and every year I get a vaccine targeted at what they assume (according to data) is going to be that flu seasons dominant strain.
Is this another example of MFP?

Some people claim that water is wet, but is it really? Or are other things just drier in comparison? Others claim that if you swallow enough water you can drown, but can you really? Or are the deaths of people immersed in water simply a coincidence and they would have died on dry land?

Those words should be on MB's gravestone.
@eladar saidThe immunity gained from exposure to one strain is proving not very robust against another strain at all, your simply lying.
Vaccines are effective for about 10 weeks.
Natural immunity is much more robust.
And of course there is much greater fatality rate amongst those who get their temporary immunity the good old fashioned way.
@kevcvs57 saidWhat is the percent reinfection rate after getting sick with covid? I mean the kind that actually makes you feel sick.

Looks like things like smoking increases your reinfection rate. People play a part in their risk for covid. Do unhealthy things, become more likely to get covid. Go figure

70% of those being hospitalised with Omicron in the uk are unvaccinated, given that about 70% of the population are now vaccinated all the blah blah blah in the world ain’t gonna stop you and MB from looking stupid son.
