You are so wrong I don't know where to begin.
Hence my calling you un-educated.
The state is responsible for ALL healthcare; period.

The state is not responsible for cosmetic or non-essential surgery
If the doctors and courts say they are, then they are.
The state law where this happened was that such surgery wasn't required to be available to prisoners, judge overruled it.
Judge is an idiot and hopefully a higher court will overrule him.

No, the Judge found it unconstitutional on two grounds:

1) On Eight Amendment grounds, because it is well-settled law that inmates must be provided medically necessary treatment or it amounts to "cruel and unusual punishment" and the Judge's factual finding id that "Ms. Cordellione has shown that her gender dysphoria is a serious medical need, and that, despite other treatments Defendant has provided her to treat her gender dysphoria, she requires gender-affirming surgery to prevent a risk of serious bodily and
psychological harm.

2) On 14th Amendment Equal Protection grounds that the statute is prohibited sex discrimination because cisgender individuals inmates can have similar types of surgeries for serious medical needs.

I doubt you have more knowledge of the laws and/or the facts than Judge Young.

No, I just have more common sense.
The monster he is ruling in favor of strangled an 11-month-old baby girl to death, and now he deserves a sex change operation in prison because he will feel better about himself if he gets one?
What kind of fool would agree with that?
Did you look at the picture of the man? He looks like a carnival sideshow freak.
It doesn't surprise me that you would side with the judge, it's just the kind of sick thing you'd go along with..

"Common sense" is a bit of a diffcult concept, since everbody assumes they have it.

One reason why people have laws is that the common sense of one person differs from the common sense of the other person. Lawmakers try to level the field by giving (hopefully) clear advice how to do things and judges do their best (hopefulyl) to understand the whole law and make informed decissions.

btw I would ratehr be tried before a professional judge, then from a lynch-mob.

You rage against a legal ruling based on things that are irrelevant to that ruling. It doesn't matter what crime an inmate committed - the State is still required to give them adequate medical treatment for serious medical conditions. And I realize right wingers here have been ignoring that gender affirming treatment and even surgery is accepted medical treatment by virtually all medical professional medical organizations, but that doesn't mean a judge is free to ignore that reality. As William Munny said "Deserving has nothing to do with it".

What the inmate "looks like" is also legally irrelevant. Your personal disdain is not an argument for ignoring settled law.

The sole question left seems to be a factual one i.e. is the inmate's condition sufficiently serious as to require gender affirming surgery as medical treatment. As I usually do in these matters, I bow to the judgment of the fact finder who has far more information than I do.
