I'm currently being persued by the TV licencing authority for the henious crime of not owning a television set, I don't have a DVD player, this computer doesn't have a TV card (it doesn't even have a sound card), and I don't have the relevant software to watch television quality internet broadcasts with. If I am really desperate to watch a program then I'll go round to a friend's house to do so, this hasn't happened in about six months. I don't want to own a TV set, because they're expensive, the licence is expensive, and what is shown on television is largely drivel. They can't fill 5 channels with stuff I want to see, what is the point of digital - the boxes cost more, they use more power at a time when with global warming we should be looking at using less, and I find it hard to believe that there will be a new renaissance in the televisual arts as a consequence of this. They did far better when there was only 1 channel over here. Sorry, bit of a rant there, didn't mean to hijack the thread - but it makes me cross to be treated as a criminal suspect just because I don't especially want a television set.

"pus"! Are they actively sending you summons and such? Do you have to allow an invasion of your privacy while they search high and low for the non-existant TV? Will it come to that?

"If they suspect that you have unlicensed or improperly-licensed receiving equipment, TV Licensing have the right to apply to a magistrates' court for an order to search your premises."
don't get us started on what they want to do to increase our Council Tax
