It’s an insidious use of hi-tech.

Yes.

There will be a day when a deepfake causes a riot or people getting killed (assuming that hasn't already happened).

It is easy to imagine Russia, for example, broadcasting what appears to be Zelensky ordering his troops to surrender.

The possibility of blackmail looms large.

The lesson is clear: don’t get your ‘news’ from social
Media.

Stop lying, my link was to an NBC News article.

Did you read the NBC News article?

You could at least read it, before naysaying it.

There have been enough incidents already of people running amok because of things posted on Twitter or other social media -- think January 6th, for example. "Stand back and stand by." Trump was irresponsibly injudicious about using insecure channels to communicate (he was overheard talking to an ambassador over a private cell phone). The danger is very real.

On the flip side soon no one will believe a thing they see on the internet unless they really really want to.
I saw a case on the news about college girls being targeted by a particular boy and he wasn’t even expelled. Law enforcement need to treat this as a sex crime and act accordingly
