What are the difference you see between them? What are the similarities?
It occurs to me that many people become interested in these parties due to a variety of issues. Specifically, they often become energized in supporting them due to social issues such as abortion/gay rights. In addition, people often become interested in them when it comes to issues that negatively effect them such as war and/or economic turmoil.
Having said that, what has either party done to promote gay rights and/or pro-life issues? For example,Clinton did nothing to promote gay marriage, yet they supported him as their own. What did Bush do for the pro-life camp? Did they not support him yet abortion is still the law of the land? In addition, did not both parties vote to go to war and were not both parties involved in the economic debacle? Perhaps neither party is really concerned with social issues, rather, they throw them out their merely to gain public support. In effect, they need the public support to promote an air of legitimacy and without these issues public support and interest would dramatically be curtailed. In addition, it is vital that one party is to blame for wars/economic debacles so that both are not tarnished to the point of abandonment. This occurs to me every time I see a drive to get more people to vote.
In reality, it seems to me that both parties are all about bigger and bigger government and more power for themselves. Of course, they throw sand in your face by offering you tax cuts and such while at the same time running up insane deficits and promoting ticking time bombs that the government knows it will have to come to terms with some day via bail outs. It seems that modern day tax cuts mean saving 10 cents come tax time only to discover you will be paying $1,000 in the near future. Such convoluted promises are equivalent to investing in a modern day corporation on Wall Street. Who really can figure out just what kind of bad of goods are being held up for you to buy into. All you know really is what the packaging looks like. If it is pretty enough, perhaps you will buy it.

Originally posted by SquelchbelchDon't get me wrong, I am still a "right wing nutcase", however, I have simply come to the realization that I have no representation, nor have I had in the past. You see, to be a right wing nutcase you must favor shrinking government rather than expanding it. This is problematic, however, because this type of thinking is inherently incompatible with power hungry politicians who run for office. In fact, pretty much everyone is looking to expand their power base no matter their line of work. It is simply human nature.

Originally posted by whodeyI do see a down side to this set up as the Democrats take over all three Houses of government. Once the Democrats take over every aspect of government, who then will be left to blame? I suppose what can be done, as sad as it sounds, is to continue to blame "W" and company from here on out for all our problems. Of course, this will only last for so long and they will then need the Republicans to then take over a House or two to equalize the blame game as they continue hand in hand toward ever increasing government.
