No matter who it was, it would help Obama. His chances of losing are pretty much zero and it would help him with his obvious campaign strategy i.e. to run as the center-left moderate that he has governed as.

I don't think Bradley's weak challenge to him in 2000 hurt Gore at all.
I'm at work and can't actually watch the youtube link. So I don't know for sure what this threads original intent was. I assumed it was about a democrat running against the incumbent president in the election. If that is the case I stand by my post. How can a fractured party be anything but bad for Obama?
