I've been hearing this garbage for decades. I heard it in 1976 when Carter was supposed to lose to Ford, I heard it in 1992 just before Bill Clinton was elected, again in 2008 when Obama was elected, and again in 2020 when Biden beat Trump.
It seems there are a few holes in your theory.

If a politician says that he's cancelling grants for transgender research but really he was cancelling grants for cancer research, I think we should collectively call that person either a liar or an idiot. Certainly we should not stand and clap for that.
