Did you know that the republicans are probably going to win mid term elections? Right after Bush was re-elected the republicans put something like a billion dollars into a campaign that secured republican seats. They have something like 150 million more dollars in campaigning that the democrats also. An article in Times.
Also did you know that as gas prices decrease, Bush's approval increases. Anyone notice them going down. Think oil companies have figured that out. Duh.... My guess is they will go back up after elections.
Edit : didn't post a question so What are you thoughts?

Increased supply -- previously high prices are bringing more oil to market, drilling rigs and production are up, refineries are being expanded here and built in other countries for the first time in years, and new technologies are being applied to exploit traditional and non-traditional sources.
Decreased demand -- in response to high prices, consumers are conserving, for example, sales of SUVs have fallen and more fuel-efficient cars are driving off the lot.
Decreased risk -- tensions in the Middle East have eased as more Iraqi oil is reaching the market, Iran seems unlikely to face sanctions, and Israel has left Lebanon, while the hurricane season has been milder than predicted. Therefore, inventories have remained high.
If gas prices increase, it will be because OPEC cuts production. And if Republicans win the mid-term elections, it will be because Democrats have no message or platform.

All kidding aside, do you seriously believe that the current administration doesn't have a hand in gas prices fixing, or anything else that may sway public opinion? If I were running this country and I wanted my party to win you better be sure that I would. It would be stupid to not use every means at my disposal to make my party win.
