Call it too much of a good thing. The rapid growth of U.S. non profits—revenues in the sector went from $678 billion in 1994 to $1.4 trillion in 2004—has brought with it a decline in ethical standards. That’s the finding of the Ethics Resource Center’s latest national survey of workers:

Perhaps people should stop giving money to self-appointed/self-righteous/unaccountable organizations like GreenPeace, ACORN, PETA, HSUS, Planned Parenthood, etc.?

Perhaps... but... no.. no people should continue to fund them for the good work that they do.

Besides, they're only as corrupt as their private sector counterparts...

"Indeed, observations of fraud, including doctored financial records and lying to stakeholders, are now about as prevalent in nonprofits (with 55% of respondents saying they’ve seen examples) as they are in the for-profit (56% ) and public (57% ) sectors."

But honestly, is this a good way of determining who's corrupt? Just going around asking people: "hey, you seen any corruption lately?"

Good works? Do you mean like raising the cost of doing business or on goods and services, and instituting a Tort Tax on all Americans?

Here you go with your socialist agenda again, telling people what they should and should not do
with their own money. You're a pinko commie, you know.

I'm merely suggesting that they might be better off donating their money to worthier causes, since the mission of all these NGOs and other groups has been perverted and they are riddled with corrupt individuals.

The difference between the used measure of corruption (which is pretty poor, to be honest) between profit and non-profit organizations is the same as between public and profit organizations.

Is that difference significative or not in your opinion?

Yup, charity like global warming is Al Gore's way of controlling the masses in his conquest for global domination.

Holy Crap! Planned Parenthood and ACORN have the power to tax now?! This is a horrible injustice. I was just talking about making contraceptives and abortion available to low income people and providing free housing consultation to low/middle income home buyers.

Good god, though. They collect taxes?? really?? 🙄

I think the real problem is with the method of investigation. Seriously.. asking workers how much corruption they've seen take place?! Come on..

But if we're gonna use this flawed survey, we might as well see how Non-Profits stack up to other buisiness models. and it turns out that they do 1% better. Disappointing? Yes. But nothing worth writing home about.

Do you feel guilty for working within a business model that has a 56% corruption survey rate?

You know, I'm not always going to be around to look these things up for you:

Tort Tax: America's tort system costs over $200 billion annually, or over 2% of gross domestic product -- more than in any other developed nation.

From Wiki: Planned Parenthood receives almost a third of its money in government grants and contracts ($305.3 million in FY 2006).
