@kevcvs57 saidIt's more than just a psychological game. We have truth and fact, but we also have model systems to predict in probabilistic ways what the unknowns will be. Climate change or world peace, for examples. We make decisions in the present based on what we think the world will look like in 2 or 200 years. We should orient ourselves within the world that makes the most logical sense as best as we can currently understand it. Some of the best physicists in the world believe we are one of an infinite number of parallel universes. The best computer scientists in the world believe realistic simulated reality is just around the corner. Simulation theory also explains many unexplainable things.
You seemed convinced that the reality of the universe should fit in with your own intra psychic landscape rather than the hard evidence.
Absolutely no evidence whatsoever for us being in a simulation outside people’s own desires, and suppositions that we will even survive long enough to build one and even then that we would bother to construct probably the most cumbersome m ...[text shortened]... hing more in common with every other known god or gods model of reality.
It has no internal logic.
The simulations exist as a means to test a wide range of possible outcomes in realistic and measurable ways, in order for base reality to make better decisions going forward.
@wildgrass saidBut surely if that was the aim of the simulation it would take place in the timeline of the simulators in order to solve the problems that they are facing.

Why would they do this historical naval gazing? What useful data would it give them? They already know what we did and what effect it had.
If simulations exist in the future they will be set in the future so the fact that we are experiencing pre simulation civilisation is very strong evidence that we are in base reality.
As for all the intra psychic evidence, that could be explained by countless other causal factors.
@kevcvs57 saidWe're both over-thinking it. By reductionist philosophy ala Descartes we exist either way. Virtual or physical, it thinks therefore it is.

"When we can't follow what's true we should follow what's probable." - (an approximation of descartes).
The universe is weird and inexplicable. Simulation makes probabilistic sense.
@wildgrass saidYeah that’s my overall take away as an agnostic to the point of apathy. It’s a pointless but very interesting vehicle for debate.

I saw a documentary film advertised about all this including contributions from Musk. I think it was called glitches in the matrix or similar. Have you seen it and is it a good watch.
