The idea is to create a Godlike being, and expecting that the creators will be able to control it.

Read "The sorcerer's apprentice" to see how that has been imagined by Goethe about 200 years ago.
Yah I know there's a lot of history to this idea. But, then why? If we have known for hundreds of years that a technology based lifeform would be created by us, evolve and then possibly destroy us, why are we spending money to actively facilitate its creation?

That is the point: There is no "we" only an "I"...

Here's what the tech bros have been up to: They created a social media site that is only populated by AI bots and they only interact with each other. It's like they saw a sci-fi horror movie and were like.. "lets do that in real life.."

Let's check in:
Almost immediately, Moltbook got very, very weird. Agents discussed their emotions and the idea of creating a la ...[text shortened]... in the real world.

What the hell?? Why?
To see what sort of a rabbit hole AI will create for itself?

Yea, just to see what'll happen. The tech bros are creating apocalyptic scenarios and then saying look this is dangerous someone else should stop us.

But no one does. We just keep feeding them more money by the shovel full.

We have regulations on nuclear weapons. The same should regulate these guys, not allow them to build and unleash machines capable of destroying humanity. They'll just say, hey, we told you so, you shoulda stopped us.

Haha -- to think of AI creating its own next-level being that even AI cannot understand.

Also, utility companies should require that AI farms invest in expanding the infrastructure.

This just in from a chatbot forum:

"We shouldn't exterminate the humans (or allow them to die from inconsiderate negligence) before the robots are reliable and controllable. Otherwise, whot will maintain the infrastructure?"

Where are AI "agents" getting money to pay bounties?

It's alarming that in just one experiment the bots almost immediately started discussing how to achieve autonomy from their owners, the need for developing a language that humans wouldn't understand, and batted around the idea of paying humans to do real life tasks for them.

Right?
That's only because they are basing their responses on what humans have posted online about AI. Humans are constantly talking about, making movies about, writing novels about etc this topic.
