Or it may hang around for decades like HIV. Till we get useful vaccines that may happen. At least the science has been doing catch up faster these days.

The Black Plague is still around. A small number of people catch it each year, but nowadays antibiotics are used to treat it.

    It won't disappear.

But, it's exceedingly likely that, due to treatments, vaccines, virus attenuation, more immunity or all of the above, it will regress to the status of being similar to another flu strain within a year or two.

Comparing SARS-CoV-2 to HIV is fearmongering. Lots of viruses get introduced into the population, but very few of them become HIV. If you want better comparisons, look to SARS or Zika or Swine Flu or Bird Flu or the Hong Kong Flu or the Spanish Flu, or MERS, etc. They all probably still exist, but they've weakened or run into immunity to the point that they're no longer that dangerous.

Given how exceedingly transmissible SARS-CoV-2 is and how little it doesn't seem to mutate more than other coronaviruses, it's exceedingly unlikely that it won't weaken over time. HIV confounded researchers for so long mainly because of how fast it mutates even within a single host.

Be careful, of course, but don't get depressed about it.

We will not be socially distancing or locking down in 2022 due to COVID.

No, no. You’re missing his point. He means it will disappear from the headlines. Just slow down the testing, which only makes the situation look bad, then Trump will look good again. Focus on the economy. See! 500 new jobs were created in Texas this week — mass-grave diggers.

That’s one way to look at it.
But it will only disappear from the headlines if the other models out there come to pass.
It may just become another flu, we will find more effective treatment even if a vaccine isn’t imminent.
This particular virus has landed right smack in the middle of his re-election aspirations.
And he is really wishing it away, on national television.
He even talked of a miracle, now he needs one.
He’s laid down the bread crumbs for a renewed FOX Propaganda narrative.
After all, Trump and FOX go hand in hand. They takes turns laying down bread crumbs for each other.

    Don’t say that!
Otherwise we’ll have Americans telling us that it’s a leftist conspiracy to kill alt-right crackers by withholding bubonic plague antibiotics to fight the Chinese virus... just to stop trump being reelected...
