I think daylight saving is more important than synchronization with the European mainland, it's not like changing your clock whenever you go from the UK to the mainland is such a labourous task.

He should and it has nothing to do with pleasing the French or annoying the Scots.

I for one am sick of watching bright daylight go to waste on empty streets at early hours before life on earth evolves, then having bleak darkness at 4:30 in the afternoon. Far more people would benefit than would lose. The number of accidents saved in the early evening has been shown to be far greater than the small number possibly caused in the morning when daylight is shifted an hour forward in winter.

Doesn't moving the clocks so that there's an extra hour of sunlight damage some types of farm crops ?

Moving the clocks doesn't affect how much sunlight there is.

I was hoping he wasn't. It wouldn't have been the first stupid thing he has posted on these forums.

Believe it or not, I have encountered those who do believe that changing the time via dst or otherwise increases or decreases the amount of sunlight.

If he wasn't serious then great.

Rather than changing the clocks, why don't we just make seasonal changes to our waking and working hours?
