When I was 18 I did roofing part time, doing classes at Palomar College also, it was tough work and I am a musician so gave that up after a 200 pound butane tank fell on my fingers, I thought I would never play guitar again so that was the end of my brief roofing career🙂

they do work harder because they are desperate for that measly salary. another, equal reason is that companies are allowed to lower the wages so much, that they are allowed to employ people without benefits.
an american will not pick strawberries in scorching heat without breaks, for long hours and a measly salary. That's not on them. That's on late stage capitalism. An immigrant will destroy their health because that money, that measly salary, might be still enough to give their family in Mexico a better life.
