Does it seem these incredibly stupid and worthless political ads on TV
seem worse this cycle? The puke laden republican ads say stuff like,
Lois Murphy, liberal lois, is going to RAISE TAXES!
I think that was verbatim. I think politcos are going lower and lower each cycle as to the level of these repulsive sound bites. Any ideas how we can stop this BS? Personally I would stop this democratic bulshyte and have the elections go by lottery. At least the politicians would not be bought out BEFORE the elections.

What happens when people don't vote? The politicians win because now only the most radical members of their party vote and they can easily predict who will win and who will lose.
I hate the way our country is ran sometimes.

P J O'Rourke (maybe)
In former times, pharmaceutical advertsing for things like 'Doan's Liver Pills' were outrageous, false and misleading. Arguably, some people were hurt because they believed and relied on those false claims. Today, the FDA carefully watches and screens what companies are allowed to claim. This is a restriction on free speech that is probably worthwhile.
Before the free speech of politicians is restricted we should ask, who is being hurt by what they say?

With no real debates on the real issues facing us, like the coming death of the planet for instance, the whole government gets elected by who has the best written sound bites. So in my example, Lois Murphy gets defeated because of some sound bite that says she intends to raise taxes, no matter what her actual record or ability. I'd say that is a direct slap in the face of every American. We lose because we get idiots in congress and then there is our current so-called president, speaking of idiots.....

I'm finding Rupublican ads quite entertaining, as they must distance themselves from Bush while pretending that they've done the right thing in supporting his misguided policies.
Here in Washington State, one candidate who favors a variation of the Bush plan for Social Security runs ads claiming that he is opposed to privatizing Social Security (he says so ten times in the 30 second spot) because he opposes privatizing it, while favoring a plan that amounts to the same thing under a different name.

I must admit, I do like some political advertizing, if only as art - I thought the Vatman and Labour's Tax Bombshell ads were quite good back in '92, LBJ's "Daisy" is still a classic, and I would frankly kill for a poster of the Torys' "New Labour, New Danger" ad from the Demon Eyes campaign in '97.
