Trump 'very disappointed' by Musk as row explodes into public

US President Donald Trump says he was "very surprised" and "disappointed" with former ally Elon Musk's criticisms of his centrepiece budget bill.

"Elon and I had a great relationship. I don't know if we will anymore," Trump told reporters in the White House on Thursday.

It was the president's most direct criticism yet of Musk's lobbying efforts against the proposals to cut taxes and slash government spending - a plan that has drawn criticism from Musk and some Republicans.

In response, Musk doubled down on X and accused the president of "Such ingratitude", adding: "Without me, Trump would have lost the election".

Musk left his post at the Department of Government Efficiency last week after 129 days on the job, and Trump presented him with a with a golden key during a congratulatory news conference on 30 May.

But in the days since, he has repeatedly criticised Trump's budget bill currently working its way through Congress, calling it a "disgusting abomination" and posting "Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong."

Musk turns on Republicans - and gives Trump's big bill a harder path

For 130 days, tech billionaire Elon Musk was a "special government employee" working inside the Trump administration to slash what he said were wasteful government programmes and bloated departments.

Now, after his exit last week, he is back on the outside. And it is the Trump administration – and the massive spending legislation the president is currently pushing – that is drawing the ire of this new, seemingly unshackled Musk.

In a series of social media posts on Tuesday, he took aim at Trump's signature tax and spending bill that is being considered by the Senate after House Republicans passed it last month. After saying he couldn't "stand it anymore", Musk called the bill a "disgusting abomination".

"Shame on those who voted for it," he said. "You know you did wrong."

And on Wednesday afternoon he went a step further, calling on voters to contact their representatives in Congress to voice their opposition. "Bankrupting America is not OK!" he wrote on X. "KILL the BILL."

Musk's diatribe against the Trump-backed bill, which includes huge tax breaks and more investment in defence, comes after he spent months pushing for cuts to government spending.

In his posts, he said the legislation would add to the US budget deficit and saddle Americans with debt. He also warned Republicans who supported, or are planning to support, the bill that "we [will] fire all the politicians who betrayed the American people" in next year's midterm elections.

And it is that line that could be the most concerning for Republicans.

In the House, all but three Republican members backed the bill, which passed by a single vote over unified Democratic opposition.

If Musk turns on the majority of Republicans - after spending hundreds of millions to support their campaigns last year - it could cause headaches for incumbents worried about facing challenges in party primaries and represent a devastating blow to Republican hopes of retaining control of Congress for the second half of Trump's second term.

Musk seems to have backed down but Trump has not.

Trump considering selling his Tesla and not yet interested in talking to Musk after public row.

Donald Trump is thinking about selling his Tesla car amid his public row with the company's chief Elon Musk, the BBC's US partner CBS News reports

The White House tells the BBC Trump does not intend to talk to the tech billionaire today, after reports they would speak on the phone later

Trump has spoken to several US media outlets today, in which he described Musk as "the man who has lost his mind" - we haven't heard from Musk yet

You forgot to mention that Elon outed Trump's relationship with Epstein; and clearly said that there is information on Trump in the Epstein files. This makes Epstein's death in jail look more and more like a murder every day.
Trump also said he would pardon Diddy if he is found guilty; gee, I wonder why.

MAGA will follow the orange TACO even if he fiddled a kid on live tv or declared war on Canada.

Musk is most likely done on the big stage. Even someone as connected as him can become too much of a risk. He'll be (another) cautionary tale against doing drugs and flying too close to the sun.

Hybris = Musk.

Watch: Did Trump win the re-election because of Musk?

Funny how some calling for Musk to be deported. (Yet they happily accepted the $250Million Musk money)

Steve Bannon calls for Trump to seize SpaceX now and deport Musk as feud spirals. Former Trump advisor says Musk is an ‘illegal alien’ who the president should ‘deport immediately.

Steve Bannon has called for Donald Trump to deport “illegal alien” Elon Musk and seize SpaceX with immediate effect.

The former senior Trump advisor, who previously rallied for a “MAGA civil war” against Musk, shared his two cents on a solution for the abrupt breakup between the two billionaires after their very public clash over the president’s “big, beautiful bill.”

Speaking on his War Room podcast Thursday evening, Bannon fumed over the tech billionaire’s threat to decommission its Dragon spacecraft “immediately” after the president mulled canceling billions of dollars of government subsidies to Musk’s companies.

Musk deletes Epstein tweet after Trump rift
Tech billionaire also retreats from threat to decommission Dragon spacecraft used by Nasa

Hmm ... damage is already done. Public thinks Trump was in the Epstein files.

There is nothing in there incriminating Trump. The democrats would have used it along time ago.

Musk's apparent move to remove the Epstein post came just hours after he made another critical post Friday night, in which he wrote he would apologize to Trump "as soon as there is a full dump of the Epstein files." That post was also later deleted.

Trump dismissed Musk's claims in an interview with NBC News released Saturday.

"That's called 'old news.' That's been old news. That has been talked about for years. Even Epstein's lawyer said I had nothing to do with it -- it's old news," he said.

"It's old news. This has been talked about for years and years. And as you know, I was not friendly with Epstein for probably 18 years before he died. I was not at all friendly with him," Trump added.

Musk is right. In fact, he didn't go far enough in warning about the reckless budget deficits.

Trump is barely intellectually capable of understanding the issue.

Of course Trump will win the PR battle.

The Epstein crap is beneath comment.
