@spruce112358 saidNew Topic: What if a President thought that foreigners who held US debt were being "very unfair"? What if foreigners "had no right to hold US denominated securities" because they "weren't American"? So all of that debt was "written off"?
Question 1: If consumers start having to "beware," do they buy more or less? Less, that's correct.
Question 2: What powers the US economy? Consumer spending - correct again! 😆

Wouldn't that "serve them right," those nasty furriners?
It's all just TOO hilarious! 😆
I'm more concerned about the USAs debt to our Social Security Fund. However, your scenario above is exactly what they are doing to steal the trillions in Our Social Security Fund; and, I'm sure you are correct that this administration will steal anything they can, from anywhere they can.
@Earl-of-Trumps saidyou think that everyone that disagrees with you is a treasonist.
@KingDavid403 - Trump and Musk should be put in prison for Treason against The United States of America.

you mean reason against the American democrats, perhaps?
you think that everyone that disagrees with you is a treasonist.
Ha.
Ha ha.
😕
Trump and Musk are not everyone; and, Musk and Trump are committing treason against the USA and the world. They're fleecing the USA; period.
@KingDavid403 saidThey should probably also be tried at The Hague for spreading their inanity throughout the world.

As far as we know, they could be some invasive alien species.
@KingDavid403 saidKleptocracy. Of course, it's all clear now.

The Rosenbergs were executed by electrocution in 1953 for, among other things, causing irreparable damage to the security of the United States. This couple, Apartheid Boy and his mistress, the POTUS, are guilty of causing irreparable damage to the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of innocent and dedicated American citizens.
Who can say which is the more heinous crime?
@spruce112358 If the US defaults on debt, the dollar will be devalued and the yuan will be the international monetary unit, something China has wanted for a long time. I believe the billionaire class, led by The Muskrat, believes that we no longer need an educated, skilled populace. AI and robotics will do the vast majority of work. People will be so impoverished, survival mode will keep them too occupied to forcefully protest. This is how an autocracy works.
"Yesterday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent made it clear that the Trump administration’s goal is to slash the federal government and to privatize its current services. (Some services deemed unnecessary will be eliminated.) As the stock market has dropped and economists have warned of a dramatic slowdown in the economy, he told CNBC “There’s going to be a natural adjustment as we move away from public spending to private spending. The market and the economy have just become hooked, we’ve become addicted to this government spending, and there’s going to be a detox period.” " Heather Cox Richardson
@Phranny saidAmericans have no idea that they voted (after literally decades of rejecting same) for AUSTERITY! Massive, Greek-style austerity. Save your money because Lord knows you might need it for food tomorrow! FOR GOD'S SAKE DON'T BUY STUFF! Anyway, with tariffs, you can't afford it. 😆

I'm OK with some austerity. I'm not OK with the dictatorship and corruption that is coming along with it... nor with doing it by shredding the Constitution because THAT will not end well. 😆
We want the dollar to be devalued. Anyway we have no idea what that means. Does it affect my drive home from work? America can exist WITHOUT "The World" whatever that is... 😆
As for foreign debt - pffft! Buncha furriners. Who cares about them. Do they care about us? No. So pfft.... 😆
https://globalnews.ca/news/11071153/canada-snowbirds-us-registration/
The full story is in the aforementioned link.
Foreign nationals visiting the U.S. for more than 30 days will have to register with the government in order to avoid penalties, a shift that could impact millions of Canadians who head south every year, including snowbirds.
The rule was part of U.S. President Donald Trump‘s “Protecting the American People Against Invasion” executive order, which he signed on Jan. 20 and applies to anyone who isn’t a permanent resident.
That order instructs the Department of Homeland Security “to ensure that aliens comply with their duty to register with the government under section 262 of the Immigration and Nationality Act.”
It is primarily part of the Trump administration’s efforts to crack down on illegal immigration and undocumented migrants, but a single line in a post about the registration on the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website shows Canadians are now a part of this change.
EDIT: Obviously Canadians are now seen as aliens, and a Threat to Americans. What a joke!!! Only thing is no one is laughing about it. Many will not be making their annual trip this year is what I am hearing from many People who are snowbirds.

@spruce112358 saidIt's not a fire sale though. They are targeting specific areas of the government that contemporary conservatives don't like (foreign aid, education, science), relatively small chunks of government spending. Nibbling on the edges of government if you will.
I think I finally figured it out: this is a fire sale. Everything must go. 😆
Turn the government off, then on again. Basic operating system reloads, but a lot has disappeared.
Musk admitted: "We will only get one shot at this." But what is amazing that this is EXACTLY what Libertarians have been demanding for years - and they only ever got 3% of the vote! This is ...[text shortened]... business as usual and they should hold up signs and wear pink. We are way, WAY beyond that point. 😆
Health care and military. That is half of government. They haven't touched it.
@wildgrass saidSo far. Musk said he wants to cut $2 trillion. 😆

Are you suggesting he LIED?!
I'm shocked. Shocked I tell you... 😆
@spruce112358 saidYeah I guess we will see. He's 1:1000 of the way there. If he was serious, wanted to blitzkrieg federal spending for real, he should have at least tried to address one of the big spending drivers by now.

@wildgrass saidThe recession flags are up. And the regime isn't denying it - in fact they are saying to the people, 'you deserve it.'

No wonder they are yelling at Vance. 😆
