I should have added my congratulations to him on his rehabilitation. I have nothing but respect for someone who paid their debt and went on to do something positive with their life.
I got the wrong end of the stick, then. I agree with your words above wholeheartedly.

yeah, maybe I was a bit extreme, however we don't know if people got killed during the guy's criminal actions.
the OP said "bank robberies". persons were at risk of being killed, whether or not he killed them.

So anyway, how was it that chess helped to prepare you for your return to the free world?

chess raised my consciousness and helped me to see the consequences of my thinking,IF i was wrong i would lose, yet i could set the pieces up again and try again, over and over. The more I PLAYED CHESS THE MORE I THOUGHT ABOUT LIFE AND MY PLACE IN IT WHICH LED TO BECOMING COGNIZANT OF THE FACT THAT IF I LOST THIS GAME I COULD NEVER SET THE PIECES UP AND PLAY IT AGAIN

Interesting. I remember reading somewhere that one way chess imitates life is that you always have to live with the consequences of the choices you make. I'll bet you see that a lot more clearly than most people.
