No that fits precisely with what I wrote. Actually, I added more nuance to your "recent" story, in the sense that farmers who are struggling have been struggling continuously for 40 years and have needed government support every single year. It's not a recent problem, the farm industry itself is sucking the resources out of government to pad their retirement accounts.

It ...[text shortened]... fine, but using tax dollars to give cash to farmers so their businesses look profitable is not fine.
you sound so Libertarian 😍

So you are against the govt helping the one that feeds you but are for govt helping those that get the food for free?
I guess so? But you phrased it kind of weird.

If the government stops sending the free stuff to the millionaire business owner (aka the farmer), he/she may have to modify their business practices to adapt to a changing market and return his/her company to profitability.

If the government stops sending the free stuff to the poor person who can't afford food, he/she may not be able to eat.

Maybe you know the answer - Where did all the fiscal conservatives go after Republican leadership fell in line behind MAGA fascists?

Not to pick on this one individual but it's a good example of the fraud I was talking about.

"Last year public documents showed that Trump National Golf Club in New Jersey was avoiding $257,000 in taxes every year by treating some of its acreage as farmland and keeping a herd of 12 goats."

Just raise 12 goats, and you don't have to pay for roads anymore?

This is a long but very well written discussion arguing in favor of cuts to farm subsidies. Subsidies distort the market regarding planting decisions, induce overproduction and waste, inflate land values, and disproportionately benefit the wealthy. Not good policy. Conservatives should be against it.

New Zealand provides a better, alternative, small government model, and their farm industry shares a greater percentage of their economy than in the USA.

New Zealand ended most of its farm subsidies in the 1980s, which was a bold reform given that the country is much more dependent on farming than the United States. Farm productivity, earnings, and environmental practices all improved after New Zealand’s reforms, while farmers cut costs, diversified land use, sought nonfarm income, and developed new markets.43 Today, agriculture is 6 percent of the New Zealand economy and 1 percent of the U.S. economy, so if the kiwis can make free-market farming work, then so can we.

Why can't we do that? Why does MAGA keep growing the government state?
