The post that was quoted here has been removedWhile I would take a proven vaccine tomorrow, I certainly understand the reluctance of people to be the guinea pigs to take the first round of a vaccine rushed through R&D in 1/10 the normal time frame. Waiting until the first round of people have taken it (I mean tens of millions, not 30,000 of a phase 3 trial) and seeing how it works for them over a 3-6 month period is understandable prudence.
The idea 27% of Americans are anti-vaxxers in general is insane, as well over 90% of Americans give their kids MMR shots and the like.
Though a day doesn't go by when I don't scour the Internet for latest COVID vaccine news and though I'm excited enough about a vaccine to have volunteered for the Phase 3 trials, it is not at all unreasonable to be somewhat concerned about the safety and efficacy of a vaccine that had been rushed through the process at "warp speed" and that has no record aside from clinical trials.
The Fauci quote is irresponsible. People who don't want to take the vaccine as soon as it comes out need not be "educated." They need to see the vaccine build a track record. Then 90+% of them will take it.
The post that was quoted here has been removed"The US is “unlikely” to achieve herd immunity to the coronavirus even with a vaccine, according to the country’s leading public health expert, who warned that a “general anti-science, anti-authority, anti-vaccine feeling” is likely to thwart vaccination efforts.
I can generally agree with this, but SH76 makes a rather valid point, this vaccine process is being rammed through at breakneck speed. I would like to see at least a short history of proven results before I'm comfortable with it. Your "anti science" statement however is 100% correct, we have too many idiots in this country that are still buying into Trump's "hoax" theory.
The post that was quoted here has been removedI wouldn't worry so much about Remdesivir. A new study came out the other day from China that confirmed it's efficacy, but only at kind of a "meh" level.

The NIH study said similar things; decrease in deaths were inside the 95% CI.
Remdesivir seems to be just about COVID's Tamiflu. Better than nothing, but not a cure-all.
The dexamethasone result in the RECOVERY study was better.
Tocilizumab also had a sterling result in a restrospective study published in the Lancet.

Reduced risk of death to a p<0.0001 level of certainty.
Finally, don't look now, but <the drug that must NOT be named> had a pretty good result in a Portuguese study on COVID pre-exposure prophylaxis.

@sh76 saidI also would not want to be first in line to try out a vaccine whipped up in only six months instead of the more usual five years. Too, there's still the fundamental question whether this particular virus lends itself to any kind of lasting vaccination at all. Sometimes I read stuff that suggests the answer is yes, and then later I'll read something that dims hopes.

@mchill said130k people dead?
Fauci is an almarmist.
fauci is an establishment tool
129,000+ dead Americans would take issue with these statements - if they could!
Tell me, how is a population supposed to develop herd immunity?
Immunization that does not exist? That is a great plan.
You are a fool and just because you found a way to make good money being a data entry person does not make you any more intelligent. You are a fool.
