Edit: I'd like to see a more mainstream news report on this. That article pushes a pretty outrageous conspiracy.

The FBI source does not say it was law enforcement planning this. It could be that FBI was watching some other organization that had these plans which is what the FBI is supposed to do.
But for fun let's point out that the Kennedies are connected to "the Irish" and "the Irish" dominate law enforcement.

The FBI sits on lots of semi credible "threats" and sometimes passes on ones that are real, like the 9/11 attacks.
