Doctors are free to prescribe ivermectin to treat COVID-19, a lawyer representing the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said this week.
“FDA explicitly recognizes that doctors do have the authority to prescribe ivermectin to treat COVID,” Ashley Cheung Honold, a Department of Justice lawyer representing the FDA, said during oral arguments on Aug. 8 in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit.

Now that nobody is getting the gene vaccine anymore and Bill Gates sold his Pfizer stock shares your doctor can prescribe it now.

They always could; the FDA just sent out informational materials saying it was a bad idea.
So no "bombshell" or any change in the FDA's position.
@metal-brain saidLol they always had the authority to prescribe ivermectin. They just didn't because it doesn't work.

@no1marauder saidIvermectin was always approved for people to use. The problem is that some pharmacists refused prescriptions for it. And why did they refuse prescriptions for covid? Because the FDA slandered it as a horse medication even though it is approved for human use and did not approve it for treating covid.

Why didn't they approve it for treating covid? Because if they did the gene vaccines could not get EUA. Ivermectin was always effective for treating covid. If they had approved the use for covid nobody would have been taking horse paste. They would have taken pills prescribed by their doctor. The FDA created the problem of horse paste use by discouraging the use of it for covid. They then used the problem they created as an excuse to convince people it was not approved for human use even though it has been for decades.
Ivermectin is safer than Tylenol.
@wildgrass saidStop lying. Doctors prescribed it, but pharmacists often refused to provide those prescriptions to patients. Ivermectin works for treating covid and that is exactly why they did not approve of it's use for covid. It was an obstacle to getting EUA for the gene vaccines.

Doctors sued the FDA.
https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/doctors-sue-fda-over-unlawful-attempts-to-prohibit-ivermectin-use-301560501.html
"The FDA is charged by Congress with protecting public health and
ensuring that regulated medical products are safe and effective, among other things. 21 U.S.C. §§ 393 (b)(1)–(b)(2). The plaintiffs do not dispute that the
FDA has the authority, generally, to make public statements in-line with
these purposes."

Moreover, while recommending that ivermectin not be used to treat COVID, the FDA also says:
"If your health care provider writes you an ivermectin prescription, fill it through a legitimate source such as a pharmacy, and take it exactly as prescribed. "

I don't see how these doctors have a case: they continued to prescribe ivermectin dispute the FDA recommendation, even if the 5th Circuit winds up reversing on the "sovereign immunity" issue.
@no1marauder saidThe horse paste comment was misleading. The FDA approved ivermectin for human use. The only reason people were taking horse paste is because they could not get it from a doctor. So the FDA caused the problem they complained about and used it as a propaganda tool to convince people it was not approved for people when it was.

@no1marauder saidPrivatise the FDA, if you prefer FDA certified products you will be happy to pay more for those drugs as a component of the price is to cover their testing/certifying regime.

'Dallas Buyers Club' based on a true story.
One of the good things Trump did was open up the availability of non-FDA certified drugs to the terminally ill. It didn't go far enough but one small, good step.
@metal-brain saidYour statements are, as usual, untrue. The FDA never said ivermectin wasn't "approved for people". Doctors were not required to ignore the FDA recommendation though the ones who filed the lawsuit did.

@no1marauder saidI didn't say they said it wasn't approved for people. I said they mislead people to believe that. Why else would they call it horse paste and lie by saying Joe Rogan took horse paste when he had it prescribed by a doctor. Rogan took a pill, not animal medication.

"Never use medications intended for animals on yourself or other people. Animal ivermectin products are very different from those approved for humans. Use of animal ivermectin for the prevention or treatment of COVID-19 in humans is dangerous."
That warning was because:
"However, the FDA has received multiple reports of patients who have required medical attention, including hospitalization, after self-medicating with ivermectin intended for livestock."
https://www.fda.gov/consumers/consumer-updates/why-you-should-not-use-ivermectin-treat-or-prevent-covid-19
