32-31 against Illinois at the half 39-33 as I'm writing this. If any of you have a clue about NCAA basketball, you'll know that a 16th seeded team has never knocked off a number 1 seed. Could it happen tonight?
Not watchin' the tube.
Federal Distribution University?

PS: Maybe you said abstract thought is a waste of time because it proves nothing until it comes into use? only then can it truly be seen whether it is practical or not?
where is Farleigh from? The Carolinas? That wrings a bell.
I like your comment. So we can say that "abstract thought" has broken no waves. No measurement and no attempt to determine a state.
Excellent.
Only when a wave is broken does it manifest in "the universe" and become "usable" information.
You have made the post of the month. Thanks.
<edit> Sorry jersey. I should not have made fun of Hoboken earlier. That's the way my world goes. I make fun and then put you all in the carolinas and then have to remember that you are in Jersey. Go figure. Sorry.

I honestly don't know whether your being serious or sarcastic. Please excuse my ignorance. Let me get a bit off topic:
What are your thoughts on sociology- a science or a myth?
Sociology does pretty well until we get to studying "taboo" things.
Then it goes "south". All the way.
But then it is being true to it's nature. It wants desperately to "understand" what society wants and needs.
It is built into the system though. ONE CAN'T STUDY THE TABOO BECAUSE IT IS FORBIDDEN.
For what it's worth. Which ain't much.
What do you think about it?
Now I'm confused. I assumed the whole point of sociology is to eventually study those taboos. To study the dirty, homeless family unit (during the depression era) and how it was affected after that huge change; to study why white supremeciasts have stereotypes of blacks, jews, and (at one time) Catholics. [funny how they are now replaced by Hispanics 😉 ] To study the whole "pack" theory and what happens if the "pack" runs out of enemies and turns on itself; to study the way that Hitler was influenced during his early childhood in Austria, and how the common misconception of him beginning this war against them was actually ongoing for generations before him, all the way back to Jesus' time.
Wouldnt you consider these to be topics of disinterest to the majority? Topics that most would like to "hide in their collective closets"?

i admitted tonight of "lying" about Eric Blair.
I have been a member for a couple of years. That "lie" makes me a "lesser" chimp.
That is our nature.
So can we study this simple act? No.
What has to happen instead is a 'tribal dream'.
We all (at RHP) must just go away for a few months and not have a "war".
Then we will "awake" from the dream and "vote" on the substance.
It isn't an easy thing. Taboo rules our lives.
>edit< I hope to hell the sharper of you all will recognize the irony of this. I am breaking the biggest taboo of all. Telling about our "taboos". That ain't good.

Eric Blair?
And the part about the "tribal dream" and "awakening" from the dream....
I read and reread without much consolation, unfortunately.
Guess this "chimp" isnt the sharpest tool in the shed.

in admitting your lie increases your chimp status. The 'sincerity' of your admission
and the conviction you express about how you will never lie again might lead to
an ironic acquisition of chimp chips.

I like your inserted part about "promises never to lie again."
Snark.
Yea. Right. In your taboo dreams.
Quite the opposite. I promise TO ABSOLUTELY LIE every chance I get.
That is what awakening from the "follow the big chimp" dream is all about. Snark.
